Awards Program
Medal of Valor The Medal of Valor is the highest award that S.O.R.D. International offers. The Medal of Valor will be awarded to a person who, while serving as a member of the military or a sworn law enforcement officer, distinguishes himself or herself conspicuously by selflessly placing at risk his life or her life above and beyond the call of duty while engaged in the performance of their duties in an austere or ambiguous environment or confrontation. The deed performed must have been one of personal bravery or self-sacrifice so conspicuous as to clearly distinguish the individual above his peers and must have involved risk of life.
U. S. Air Force Colonel Basil Lynwood Bargery “Lifetime Achievement Award” The Colonel B. L. Bargery Lifetime Achievement Award” recognizes the long term achievements and contributions of an individual that has set an example of excellence for all to emulate in the law enforcement, military and the tactical medical fields. This award was developed to honor those who have served this country and their community generously and unselfishly with at least twenty years of continuous service. This award is to commemorate the exemplary contributions of the nominee and to recognize their dedication and loyalty to their country and community. The recipient of the “Lifetime Achievement Award” will receive the following:
Distinguished Service Award The “Distinguished Service Award” is awarded to any person who, while serving as a member of the military or a sworn law enforcement officer, has distinguished himself or herself by exceptional meritorious service in a position of great responsibility. The performance must be such as to merit recognition for service which is clearly exceptional. Exceptional performance of normal duty will not alone justify an award of this decoration.
Life Saving Award The “Life Saving Award” is awarded to law enforcement, EMS, fire fighting personnel or citizens whose actions save the life of another person in an emergency situation.
T.M.O. Award The “Tactical Medical Operator (T.M.O.) Award” is awarded to medical personnel who, while serving in the military or law enforcement as a tactical medic or physician, distinguishes himself or herself through their service and dedication to the advancement of tactical medicine and tactical medical programs.
Award Prerequisites S.O.R.D. International’s awards program is to honor the outstanding service of individuals in the military and public safety career fields for their development and exceptional performance of duty, combined with distinguished service to this country and their community.
The Awards Committee reviews nominees on the following criteria: 1. Employment record Note: The Colonel B.L. Bargery “Lifetime Achievement Award” will be presented to ONE individual on an annual basis. All award nominations must be received at S.O.R.D. International not later than December 31 st.
